This is the 6th surgery I have ever had and I was extremely nervous as I have had some traumatic experiences in the past. I would like to thank the staff at Kununurra hospital so much for their understanding of my anxiety and how they dealt with it respectfully and appropriately.
I was advised that I would be given anti-anxiety medication on arrival to the hospital by Jarred the Anaesthetist on the phone the day before. He answered my many questions and I felt at ease coming into hospital.
I was checked in by a nurse called Amy who went over and above to look after me throughout the day, she was aware of my situation and did everything she could to make my experience a calm one.
The staff who were present throughout sedation and were all so kind and friendly and put all my nerves at ease. Jarred checked I had been given anti-anxiety medication when we entered theatre and I was put to sleep very peacefully.
After my procedure the nurses in recovery and back on the ward checked my pain score regularly and I was given medication to ensure I was comfortable and not nauseous. Amy phoned my partner to advise him when I was in recovery and I woke up to a note from Dr Jarred, the surgeon, explaining exactly what happened and what they found and letting me know I would have a follow-up in a month's time.
My obs were checked regularly and I was advised when I would be allowed to go home but that there was no rush and I could stay until I felt comfortable enough to leave.
Thank you again to all the staff in Kununurra for making this experience as easy as it could have been. I truly appreciate it. 😊
