"Laparoscopic surgery in Kununurra"

About: Kununurra Hospital / General Ward

(as the patient),

This is the 6th surgery I have ever had and I was extremely nervous as I have had some traumatic experiences in the past. I would like to thank the staff at Kununurra hospital so much for their understanding of my anxiety and how they dealt with it respectfully and appropriately.

I was advised that I would be given anti-anxiety medication on arrival to the hospital by Jarred the Anaesthetist on the phone the day before. He answered my many questions and I felt at ease coming into hospital.

I was checked in by a nurse called Amy who went over and above to look after me throughout the day, she was aware of my situation and did everything she could to make my experience a calm one.

The staff who were present throughout sedation and were all so kind and friendly and put all my nerves at ease. Jarred checked I had been given anti-anxiety medication when we entered theatre and I was put to sleep very peacefully.

After my procedure the nurses in recovery and back on the ward checked my pain score regularly and I was given medication to ensure I was comfortable and not nauseous. Amy phoned my partner to advise him when I was in recovery and I woke up to a note from Dr Jarred, the surgeon, explaining exactly what happened and what they found and letting me know I would have a follow-up in a month's time.

My obs were checked regularly and I was advised when I would be allowed to go home but that there was no rush and I could stay until I felt comfortable enough to leave.

Thank you again to all the staff in Kununurra for making this experience as easy as it could have been. I truly appreciate it. 😊

Hello EKununurra,

I am so sorry for the delay in my response. I am really thankful that you have taken the time to thank our hardworking staff at Kununurra Hospital, who pride themselves on patient care. It sounds like the staff went above and beyond to attend to your specific needs and that is something I am very proud of as the manager of the hospital. The staff in our theatre department are fantastic and this is a great example of their dedication.

The team have passed on your gratitude to the individuals so I am so glad you named them, it helps us to reward good work. I am sure will encourage them, and their colleagues, to continue to provide individualised care to our community.

Thank you again and if you would like further feedback or like to be a part of the patient journey at Kununurra District Hospital please don't hesitate to contact me on 0408944305

Kind regards,

Keda Bond

Operations Manager, East Kimberley Health Services.
