"Kind care for toddler"

About: Northam Health Service / Emergency Department

(as a parent/guardian),

I would like to commend Northam ED for the kind and caring treatment of my toddler when she presented with a high temp and persistent cough.

After 4 days of illness, we knew she needed some extra help to recover from her virus. The local GP Practice in York refused to see her because of her COVID like symptoms and the local hospital were hesitant and recommended we go to Northam ED.

Not wanting to put pressure on an already busy regional hospital, we were reluctant to present there, but after another night of high temps and coughing, knew it was the best thing to do.

Nurse Vicki and the new ED Doctor, Nvan, attended to us very quickly in the isolation room. The assessment, COVID test and prescription were all completed without any tears due to the caring manner in which they carried out their roles.

Northam Hospital should be proud of its staff. It is a shame we couldn't get this responsive treatment at our local health facilities.

Dear corvushx63,

Thank you for taking the time to provide feedback concerning your child’s presentation to Northam Hospital Emergency Department.

I was very pleased that your child received the high level of professionalism and care expected by all of our health service sites and I will have pleasure in passing your thanks to the staff. We are also proud of the service they provide.

I have noted your comment regarding your visit to the local GP and York Hospital.

It is very important that we provide a health service that is responsive to the needs of our communities and should the need arise again I encourage you to present to your local hospital. I have discussed your feedback with York Hospital's Health Service Manager and I also will be following up with your local GP service concerning their procedure for patients who present with COVID like symptoms.

I would welcome a further discussion on this matter in confidence so please do contact me Mr Trenton Greive, Operations Manager Western Wheatbelt on 9 690 1310.

I trust your child has now recovered.

With best wishes

Trenton Greive
