The wonderful team at the Breastfeeding Centre of WA gave me the knowledge, practical skills & equipment to support my breastfeeding journey. I feel their help was critical to assist me in breastfeeding my two children. My first had a tongue tie which prevented proper attachment & so my milk supply never properly developed. The team was so supportive in teaching me how to pump with the breastpump they loaned to me, how to finger feed that expressed milk & ultimately how to get a good latch & transition back to breastfeeding. That was almost 3 years ago. I have just had my second child & while I didn’t need as much assistance, the team gave great advice over the phone & after one in-person consultation I was confident in resolving a few minor issues.
I believe this service is essential & needs to be well funded in order to assist more mothers in the difficult first few weeks of breastfeeding so they don’t feel overwhelmed & give up by switching to formula.
