On the weekend I brought my tween-aged daughter into the Geraldton ED. She was experiencing chest pain and shortness of breath. I was seen by the Triage Nurse and my daughter was taken into the ED straight away. The staff were fantastic. Professional, informative and caring.
My daughter was quite anxious, however, the bedside manner of both the Nurses and the Doctor alleviated that and I could tell she was comfortable with them treating her. In turn, this made me feel less stressed and a lot calmer.
The Doctor (Dr Albi) was very reassuring with my child and explained everything he was doing and offered her the opportunity to ask questions. The Nurse (Mel) was also very reassuring and it felt like my child was the most important person in the room. This made it particularly less stressful for my child when the Nurse then needed to cannulated her.
Thank you to all the staff at the GH in particular Nurse Mel and Dr Albi. Can I also add, as a stressed parent in an ED, the teamwork I observed throughout this time was very reassuring; an empathetic, caring and professional team.
