"Noise level and treatment"

About: PathWest Osborne Park Collection Centre

(as a service user),

Hi. I was recently at the Osbourne Park PathWest centre.

My child and I arrived at PathWest Osborne Park centre in the early afternoon, 3 people were in the waiting room and now we make 5. Then another 2 walked in. There were 3 chairs!

There was only 1 collector working. I felt, how utterly ridiculous! I was here with my autistic child for a blood test then I had to go to the bank to organise an estate account regarding my partner who had died less than two weeks before.

I believe the collector there is not a particularly nice person and, in my opinion, certainly not kind. They had the radio blasting out loud rock music. I asked if it could be turned down. Their answer was, I’m not allowed to as it is to mask the sound in here, I believe pointing to the treatment room.

This music was loud yelling noise at a level, in my opinion, quite annoying. I believe another service user even had a hard time hearing their phone call.

I believe the situation here is totally unreasonable and not fair. In my opinion, to have one person working is preposterous, who by the way was short tempered not helping matters. I believe, a person asked them what was the wait time, they answered, well I don’t know how am I to know, then told the person to wait outside until their turn as there were too many people inside.

I believe this must be rectified immediately!

Dear golfqx68,

Thank you for providing this feedback on the service you received at our King Edward Road, Osborne Park collection centre. I am very sorry to hear about your experience. I apologise that you felt that you were dealt with in a discourteous and unkind manner.

We expect our staff to always be kind, respectful, courteous and professional. I am sorry that on this occasion that you felt this level of service was lacking.

We will reiterate this expectation with our staff via scheduled customer service training sessions.

We have followed up with the collection staff regarding appropriate volume and radio stations for the collection centre.

Seating in waiting rooms is currently restricted due to COVID-19 distancing protocols. I understand this can be frustrating but we must strive to provide safe social distancing within our public areas.

Patient numbers fluctuate greatly within the pathology service and whilst we endeavour to staff adequately for a timely and convenient service sometimes client numbers surge unexpectedly.

If you would like to discuss any aspect of the service you received further, please contact me.

Kind regards

Elaine Toogood
