Before coming into Elouera I had reached breaking point of the domestic violence in my life which I masked in my Drug use. I had DCJ re-engage with me in relation to my child again after some DV situations. I was actually glad to see DCJ at that point as I knew it all had to come to a stop as my Drug use had once again gotten out of hand.
After my family held an intervention with me, my sibling (who is also a DCJ worker) put a family safety plan into action that included getting me into rehab.
I got myself to Elouera after a few good stern words from Kristi, she made me relax about getting there.
Once I was here I was really surprised, it was a lovely place and all the staff and clients were so welcoming. Starting groups was very daunting and a real shock to my emotions. I promised myself to be honest about everything once I got here and remember that I'm not being judged which really helped.
I'm grateful that I came to the realisation that my most dangerous addiction was in fact my child's other parent and I've taken steps to remove them from my life. I've been able to remind myself that life is a lot easier and a happier place to be in without the stress of using drugs. I know I can get back to where I was a couple of years ago once I return home, and be present for all my kids.
