"Streamlined Albany ED"

About: Albany Health Campus / Emergency Department

(as a parent/guardian),

My teenage daughter was brought in by ambulance after a fainting episode with convulsions at home. Pretty scary as a parent to witness. The check-in process went very smoothly considering it was, I believe, a busy morning. Nurses Katie and Jeanette were very calm and meticulous with checking identification and vitals. Katie also explained to my daughter very clearly why she was being tested on the ECG machine.

Dr Tom arrived to assess my daughter within minutes. I felt he was very personable and has exceptional communication skills. He let my daughter tell her story of what she could recall and also acknowledged me in how stressful the incident would have been. He shared a funny story about his time as a doctor overseas which helped my daughter understand that her fainting was a completely normal response to a drop in blood pressure. He was able to reassure myself and my daughter that everything was normal and we were discharged soon after.

Thank you to the wonderful team at Albany ED. In my opinion, you all do an amazing job.

Dear Morningstar1,

Thank you very much for your kind words and for sharing your story. We will make sure Nurses Katie and Jeannette and Dr Tom get to see your post as well as the rest of the team.

Feedback is really important to us – the positive stories help us celebrate and share our successes and the less positive help us identify areas for improvement.

Our emergency department has been pretty busy of late so it is great to hear that despite that, you and your daughter did not feel rushed and that you were so well looked after.

I hope your daughter is fully recovered.

Best wishes

John Van Der Post
