(as the patient),

I had my baby at KEMH, I was told straight away that I can only have my baby at KEMH. I had an emergency c-section after being induced. In my opinion, the care was excellent until I got up the ward. I felt no one listened to me, I rang the call bell and it seemed to take them between 10 to 30 minutes to come to me. I believe I got fat shamed by a particular group of staff. I felt the midwives didn't help me with my care. I believe I was always talked to like I am dumb.

Firstly I would like to congratulate you on the birth of your first baby. This is such an exciting time for any family.

I am sorry for any derogatory actions or comments made to you about your weight.

The Women and Newborn Health Service (WNHS) is an inclusive environment for all people; any type of negative remark made to our patients regarding their weight, gender, sexual orientation or race is never acceptable. Furthermore, I am sorry that you felt you were not listened to and that you were made to feel alone. This type of feedback is taken very seriously. I would encourage you to contact our Consumer Liaison Service on 6458 1444 so that an investigation can be undertaken and an individualised response can be provided to you.
