"Hospital emergency visit"

About: Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital / Emergency Department

(as the patient),

Early last year I had bad respiratory symptoms and was sent in an ambulance twice from advice from two different experienced medical sources. Both times were refused due to not having a cough and not being able to be tested for covid. My experience of not falling into a covid category, but then being asked to wait outside in the cold to be picked up by someone, meant that my symptoms were not addressed. I was not told to go around to the emergency department (for non covid symptoms). I was left to not be able to breathe and feel like I was going to die.

The 2nd visit by ambulance, I believe the ambulance officer begged for me to be tested, I understand there was still not enough kits. I insisted on a Drs opinion to which I felt I coldly got by a Dr who asked if I had suffered mental health issues and diagnosed me with anxiety.

I was so distressed by then as had 8 nights with no sleep as couldn't breathe. Again, I felt, tossed outside to be picked up by a family member and the symptoms were not addressed.

My partner begged for me to be tested or seen to properly.

My partner then called our personal Dr and they organised an X-ray to which the diagnosis was viral bronchitis.

I have lost my faith in the hospital emergency system.

The reason I am reporting this at this time is because I am in a situation where I have symptoms (since 2 weeks after having covid vaccine) that feel like deep vein thrombosis in both legs and throbbing in arms and legs and chest pains.

All my friends (whom some are nurses) have told me to go and get checked and I'm hesitant because of the terrible way I was made to feel last time.

Dear plutomh65,

Please accept my sincere apologies for your experience whilst attending Emergency Department at Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital (SCGH) last year. I am so sorry you now feel that you cannot seek medical care and lack faith in the hospital emergency system.

I am very concerned that you have not sought medical treatment for the symptoms you have described and encourage you to do so immediately. I urge you to either attend the Emergency Department or your GP practice for an assessment of your symptoms.

Once your current health concerns have been addressed and should you want further investigation of your presentations, please call the Consumer Liaison Service on 08 6457 2867 or email CLS@health.wa.gov.au to provide the information we require to look at the care you received at SCGH.

Kind regards,

Janet Zagari
