On entry to POW, at the entrance, in my opinion, the staff manning the covid screening desk are quite often rude and very awful in the way they speak to people. I come in and out multiple times a day as I have a baby in the NICU at the adjoining hospital.
My worst experience was more recently. The staff member manning the only open desk was, I believe, not listening to people’s answers. A visitor came in before me with some food for a patient they were visiting and the staff member, I felt, rudely told them that they could not deliver the food. So the visitor binned it and continued to enter the hospital to visit their person. The staff member then, I felt, started yelling at the visitor that they couldn’t enter and needed to leave. I believe the staff member had not listened to the visitor when they told the staff they were visiting a patient and not a delivery driver as they had assumed.
I was next in line and showed the staff member my phone check in, I then had to explain several times that I was visiting my child in the NICU, I felt I had to rephrase this sentence multiple times before they understood. As I went to walk toward the other hospital they asked to see my check in, which I had already shown them. By this stage I was over being there and showed them my phone again. I was clear with my response that I was less than impressed with the entire encounter. As I walked away they, I believe, yelled at me that I need to be more understanding that they were just doing their job.
I’m sorry, but, I feel being rude to those entering the hospital and not actively listening are not a part of the job. This is not an isolated event but the worst I have experienced. People don’t generally come to the hospital for good reasons, and in my opinion, having the first people that you come into contact with be incredibly rude is not a good start.
