"Here's to the new me"

About: Lives Lived Well - Woolloongabba

(as the patient),

I have been a drug user on and off for many years.

When I found out about Lives Lived Well I was at rock bottom and on the verge of losing my children and my family. I lost all sense of who I was and who I wanted to be. I felt hopeless, ashamed, disappointed, embarrassed and felt as tho there was no future for me.

I had no idea what to expect coming into day one of my program. Were there going to be other people like me in similar situations, was I going to be judged, were the educators going to understand me, my situations, was I even going to learn anything.

I've written this story on my final day, I have been here for three weeks. This program has been eye-opening and I am walking out of here a different person. I have learnt so much more than what I was expecting. From identifying my triggers/cravings - to coping skills, knowing my values and setting healthy boundaries, learning new ways to deal with my emotions and anger, to drug refusal, problem-solving and coping with anxiety. Lives lived Well have give me the tools I need to become the best version of me possible. I am so thankful and so grateful for this chance given. Here’s to the new me :)

Hello bravory64,

Stepping into the unknown is an act of courage. Your description of the lead up to your first day at the Lives Lived Well's day program at Woolloongabba is a great description of all the many little steps it takes to get to day one and jump into the unknown. It is a big act of courage to look the shame, hopelessness and distress in the eye and turn up. This is the step that makes all the difference, then we keep repeating it and next thing we have completed three weeks. Then you see everything in a different light.

Thank you for sharing your story, the before and the present. It is great to hear that you now see things differently and you feel you are a different person. All the various skills and knowledge you have taken on board will help you into the next steps of your journey in life.

Thank you, too, for your acknowledgement of Lives Lived Well and the staff who engaged with you in this program. It is appreciated.

I wish you all the best as you integrate this knowledge and these skills into your daily life and share them with your family.

Warm regards

Gerard
