"Wondering why younger persons are getting the Pfizer before me"

About: St George Hospital COVID Vaccine Hub

(as other),

I was recently speaking to a friend whose adult child has just had the Pfizer vaccine at St George Hub. They are in their mid-20s 🤔 and I believe works at home 🏡

My spouse and I are in our 50s, we have both registered with the St George Hub weeks ago and can’t make an appointment.

Would love someone to explain. Many thanks.

Dear blackbirdxp53,

Thank you for your feedback.

Eligibility for either vaccine is determined via the eligibility checker as part of the registration process.

The Australian Technical Advisory Group on Immunisation (ATAGI) recommends the COVID-19 Comirnaty (Pfizer) vaccine as the preferred vaccine for people aged 16 to 59 years, however, the AstraZeneca vaccine can also be provided to 18 to 59 year olds.

All healthcare, frontline and residential aged care workers are eligible to receive the Pfizer vaccine regardless of age.

If you are eligible and can’t find a clinic or make a booking that suits you please check back later, as new appointments are being added all the time.

Yours sincerely,

Catherine
