I was lucky enough to secure a spot in the MGP program. I didn't know what it was at first but my doctor said it was an honour to be involved. I really appreciated that my midwife Mel would most likely be at my birth and was able to meet my secondary midwife Paula too. Both were so kind and supportive, not only with the medical check-lists but emotionally too. They are very very empathetic and wholesome women. I never needed to call them, but it was such a relief to know I could reach them with any problems at any hour of the day. I wouldn't have had that one to one contact at my doctors. I got to know the hospital a little too, which made my induction day less intimidating, also knowing Mel would be there. Based on my experience, never underestimate the power of seeing a familiar face when going through something as extreme as childbirth!!
I attended the birthing classes online as we were in lockdown at the time. I really appreciated that they made huge efforts to get it online and facilitated questions so we could interact. I learnt a lot from those classes that really prepared me for the more medical side of birthing. I didn't know much about induction processes, pain relief options or labour until these classes. I definitely would have been unprepared if I hadn't attended.
I love that my midwife got to come visit us for our 1 week check-up at home. It felt right that she saw us through this process and met our son properly afterwards.
The staff at King Edwards are incredible. I was unlucky to get mastitis and return to the hospital for treatment. I had incredible care for me and my baby who had to come with me, I felt so supported and safe. Based on my experience, I couldn't recommend this hospital and this MGP program enough. I hope more women get the experience I did with them. I truly hope that I can have my next child with them.
"My wonderful MGP experience"
