I took my child to ED with a tooth abscess that they had previously had antibiotics for, but it hasn’t gone away and the pain had returned, once we got in the dr whom I did not get the name of, came over and looked in my child's mouth. They picked at the abscess with a tongue depressor and explained that antibiotics aren’t good to keep giving them. I told the doctor I agreed and explained my child was booked in to have the tooth removed but it wasn’t for another few days, so wanted to make sure that they wouldn’t get unwell from it. The doctor said they have seen abscesses a lot worse and didn’t think my child's one would cause any ill effect. They then walked away and I didn’t speak to them again, the nurse asked them what they wanted done. The nurse then brought over antibiotics and a script.
I left with more questions than answers. I didn’t go there to get medication and thrown out the door, I wanted to know what to do for my child until we could go to the dentist. The nurse that saw us was very polite and helpful and I thank her for her time and the courtesy she showed us.
