Hello everyone, I am writing to tell everyone about the staff cutbacks at Karinya Aged Care facility in Numurkah. My parent has been a resident there since late last year.

Recently when l visited, I was aware that the staff were racing around trying to complete set tasks and answer calls. When I enquired as to why they were so busy, I was told as I recalled, of a reduction in staff albeit the ‘floater’. After further enquiry, I was told this was a Board decision.

I believe this reduction has put further stress on the wonderful staff already trying to provide a caring environment. I believe this decision could put at risk residents and staff wellbeing.

Thank you for taking time to provide valuable feedback in relation to staffing in our Karinya Aged Care Facility in Numurkah. First of all, I want to thank you for your recognition of our staff. As Director of Clinical Services, I am very proud of the care they provide to our residents.

With regards to the business you witnessed, I want to reassure you that there is no staff reduction in our aged care and the wellbeing of our staff is of utmost importance. Unfortunately, due to the current pandemic and with the ongoing outbreaks in our region, we have to keep our staff bubbled to one site. This has indeed put a significant strain on all health care providers and is probably the reason that on your visit you may have noticed less staff.

Despite the restraints in which we are working, I assure you that we have many processes and strategies in place to ensure our residents are well cared for and that the community we serve remains our highest priority.
