"Emergency Response and Management"

About: Geraldton Hospital / Emergency Department

(as a relative),

My husband was taken to Geraldton Hospital ED in a state of collapse from heart failure. He was transferred immediately into the resus bay and a senior reg (Kassim) and clinical nurse (male) then commenced his care and management. At all times they conversed with me providing information and support. Informing my husband what was happening and why, numerous attempts were made to cannulate and provide him with life-saving fluids as he was seriously dehydrated.

I felt the management of emerging cardiac arrhythmia was well-managed. After 5 hours my husband was readied for transfer to SCGH using RFDS with a doctor on board. The staff were outstanding in the middle of what was a busy day. I had no option but to travel home leaving my husband in their care and I then received a call from Kassim telling me that my husband would be flown south to Charlies for management of his condition and providing me with an update as to his condition.

Dear indigowg54,

I am so pleased to receive such positive feedback about your health care experience. The communication from Kassim and the clinical nurse to you throughout the process is a great example of our values of Communication and Quality, putting the patient and family at the centre of care. Kassim and the clinical nurse have clearly gone above and beyond to care for your husband at his most vulnerable and I am proud to have them as part of the Geraldton Hospital team. I look forward sharing your kind words with Kassim and other staff involved in your husband’s care.

I hope your husband is recovering well and thank you for taking the time to write to Care Opinion.

Kind Regards,

Derek Fraser

Geraldton Hospital Operations Manager
