"Treated with respect and dignity"

About: Kalgoorlie Health Campus / Surgical Ward

(as the patient),

I came in with pancreatitis. I was in a very bad way, the pain was indescribable and I was taken straight into emergency and felt I was treated with compassion. I believe they did everything possible to make me comfortable.

Then I was taken to ward D. When I was feeling at my worst, I couldn't of asked for a better place to be. All the nurses who I dealt with over all of the shifts involved in my care were absolutely amazing. I felt they were compassionate and understanding and nothing was ever a problem. I was in there for several days and was treated with respect and dignity all the time. Even had a lot of laughs with the nurses and met some wonderful people. Thank you all very much, also to the staff behind the scenes.

Dear jupitercz93,

Thank you for taking the time to share your story about your distressing experience of having pancreatitis and being admitted to the surgical ward via the Emergency Department.

Here in our wonderful outback city of Kalgoorlie, we at the Hospital are very proud of our staff who choose to work in Rural and Remote Health Care. Our teams are committed to providing the very best of care that is evidence-based and patient-centred. It takes a lot of disciplines to ensure this happens, there are the clerks, administration staff, cleaners, orderlies, kitchen staff, maintenance personnel, medical imaging staff, pathology staff, nurses, medical staff and allied health staff.
So all in all there are really a lot of people, science, and decision making ensuring that our patients receive the best possible care and outcomes.

I am proud to hear that you felt safe, comfortable and that you were treated with compassion, understanding, dignity and respect during your journey through our service. I will most definitely pass on your great feedback to the relevant teams.
I do hope that you are recovering well.

Best Regards,

Scott Jones
