"Incorrect triage at emergency"

About: Fiona Stanley Hospital / Emergency Department

(as the patient),

I presented at Fiona Stanley emergency department with severe abdominal pain, possible ectopic pregnancy. After having passed out in the car en route to hospital, I found the staff were less than helpful when my spouse asked for a wheelchair to get me inside.

Once inside at the triage desk, I felt the nurse was very average with their triage questioning, did not listen to the information I gave, triaging me as a priority 3. I recall being told to sit in the waiting room and it would be a few hours until I saw a doctor.

In my opinion, severe abdominal pain and ectopic pregnancy should both be an ATS2 at triage. I was in so much pain and feeling so sick, I had my partner help me back into the car and take me to the private hospital next door where I believe I was appropriately triaged and seen immediately, as I should have been at Fiona Stanley.

As it seems to me, I am now $550 out of pocket thanks to the public hospital not being able to triage correctly, and me not being in any fit state to argue this with them at the time. Based on my experience, I am not impressed- a potentially life threatening condition and a triage nurse who apparently doesn’t know how to use the ATS.
