My teenage child, who is legally an adult and lives alone, presented to GRH recently one night after self-harming by cutting their arms and legs - once again. This is about the 4th time in the last 12months that they have presented with this issue. That night my child told me that they admitted to the doctor that they saw that they had been using Xanax and that they smoke a particular drug.
My child was seen, given tubigrip for the areas they cut and sent home to be alone. They said they asked for mental health to see them but was just told to go home.
I am very concerned as this is an ongoing issue which I have complained about before, as has my child's grandparent, and as you would know once the episode is over often the cry for help also disappears until next time. Don't the doctors read patient notes - or do they not have access to them during the night, as if they did, I believe they would see this is an ongoing issue and needs to be addressed further.
My child was being seen by mental health about 6 months ago, that seemed to stop, not even a phone call I believe to see how they are going. In my opinion, mental health and drug services in the Midwest are an absolute disgrace with the lack of care and follow up. I feel that sometimes all you need is a phone call.
