I recently gave birth to my second child, a baby girl at Bass Coast Hospital.
I began my care at Wonthaggi Hospital at the beginning of my pregnancy and had an amazing shared care team of midwives and doctors (Dr. Rick and Dr. Sarah) throughout my maternity care. I found that they were always very kind, friendly, professional and thorough. No questions ever went unanswered and I felt I was offered so much great advice throughout my pregnancy, especially in regards to the covid vaccination. I always left the hospital feeling at ease and full of confidence about my pregnancy journey and felt that the staff always had my best interests at heart.
I was diagnosed with gestational diabetes during my pregnancy and was advised to be induced because of this. Being induced with my previous pregnancy I had been through it all before and knew what to expect, so I was happy and confident to go through the process again.
I felt I was also very well supported by my diabetes educator Claire throughout my pregnancy. She called me weekly to check in and see how things were going. She reassured me when I was unsure of my blood sugars and always offered great advice and support.
I was induced at 39+6, the day before my due date. Everything went extremely well and I experienced quite a fast labour. My midwives were extremely thorough and attentive. They coached me and supported me throughout the whole induction process. Again no questions were left unanswered and I was in such a positive and confident mental state due to the amazing staff I had around me. This is definitely what helped get me through.
I cannot thank my midwives Louise, Melanie and Maddy enough. They were absolutely incredible in guiding me throughout my labour and birthing experience. They were extremely lovely and were more than happy to meet all of my needs. They supported my birth plan 100% and suggested different labouring positions to make me more comfortable. They allowed me to have a drug free birth with no interventions and I honestly don’t know if I could have gotten through without an epidural at a different hospital. I honestly experienced my dream birth and was unrestricted in my labouring positions. I was able to give birth standing up which was my dream from the start.
After my birth the staff have continued to be super attentive and aware of mine and my baby’s needs.
Also, in my opinion, the food here at the hospital is amazing! My partner and I brought a heap of snacks and our own food preparing for what we expected to be average hospital food, but we didn't have to use much of our own food at all, as we were pleasantly surprised with how good the food options are here!
I am just absolutely over the moon with my care here at Wonthaggi, and I will definitely be coming back for any future pregnancies! I would recommend to all my friends and family. Thanks to all the other staff who have provided care to myself, my partner and our little baby, I apologise if I have forgotten anyone.
