My daughter has a chronic mental health condition and also impaired vision. She attended a regular eye appointment at another hospital, where she received news that her eyesight was continuing to diminish. This triggered an instant major depressive episode with suicidal ideation. The staff at the hospital contacted the ED Psych team who referred her to the Bentley Mental Health ward where she was admitted that same evening.
I found the doctors and the nursing staff who I dealt with were all caring, positive and supportive, ready to listen and help on all levels. They kept me regularly informed about my daughter and her progress, I believe they were keen to review her previous admissions and outcomes and I felt they were supportive of my daughter’s needs and wishes throughout her admission. I believe both Dr Mathew and Dr Krishna were very encouraging and ready to listen. The nursing staff, the physio staff, dietitian and social support staff were interactive with my daughter, they helped her when she had trouble performing daily tasks due to her eyesight and they encouraged her with her progress.
My daughter’s discharge plan was thoroughly discussed with a view for ongoing support and safety. I recall follow up support was organised and ongoing treatment options/suggestions also given.
Thank you to you all who I dealt with, for your patience, your help and your care.
