"Medication"

About: Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital / Pain Management Clinic

(as the patient),

I feel confused, the last time my pain management specialist rang me, it seemed to me we hung up with the feeling that all was OK as far as my medication was concerned- continue with the Methadone as that was the only medication that works for me and I believe they were going to send the practice I go to a letter stating exactly that.

Maybe the specialist forgot to send the letter, I don't know, but when I went to the doctor to get the Methadone script filled, I recall they said that they couldn't refill the script next time because the pain specialist hadn't sent them a letter to confirm that I was to continue with the Methadone. I find this very disturbing as I have tried so many different medications and I don't want to start all over again.

When I rang the pain management clinic several times, I decided to try a part of the clinic only to find that they had all gone on holidays. I feel this suggests that nobody has pain until they come back, or problems. I believe it's closed for another 25 days. I don’t understand how that will work, it's not an engineering company, it's a hospital.

Dear encryptionrm43,

Thank you for taking the time to share your concerns regarding the lack of follow up with your GP after your appointment at the Pain Management Clinic, Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital.

The lack of communication to your GP must have been very frustrating and not an experience we want our patients to have, especially at this time of the year when outpatient services are reduced. Please accept my sincere apologies that you were unable to get the assistance you required to manage your chronic condition.

I have been advised that the Pain Management Clinic will be open on Tuesday 4th January 2022 and encourage you to either call them directly or contact the Consumer Liaison Service on 6457 4441 so that they can assist you with your concerns.

Thank you for taking the time to feedback on your experience of the service.

Kind regards,

Theresa Marshall
