"COVID test waiting time"

About: Sydney / Sydney Eye Hospital / Emergency Department

(as the patient),

I went to get my COVID test done along with my family at Sydney Eye Hospital. I recall we had to wait for around 3.5 hours before we could give our swab test which I believe just took 30 seconds.

It seemed to me there was inefficiency:

1. I was asked to fill in an online form. Exact same information was asked to be filled in on a piece of paper. Just curious as I feel the online information filled in by patients could have been used. If someone actually had COVID in that line, I believe there is high chances that it could spread at the COVID test line.

2.  I recall there was a person who came to give a token number on a sticker. In this time and age why does one have to come and provide a token.

3. It is totally outdoors - the waiting line. If someone is unwell, I believe this is going to aggravate their illness.

Overall, I felt this is such an inefficient way to process. I felt there were many countries which did much better at handling such testing.

Dear subscribe123,

I am sorry to hear about your experience at our COVID Clinic.

Similar to other COVID testing clinics across NSW, our COVID Clinic has experienced an enormous amount of testing demands for past few weeks.

The current process was adopted to manage the surge presentation of COVID testing and we are continuing to review our process to improve service delivery.

We provide bottles of water and sunscreen on hot days for people lining up for the COVID testing and staff are also on site for public in the queue to escalate concerns during their waiting period.

Once again, we apologise for your experience and thank you for taking your time to share your experience on Care Opinion.

Best wishes

Jon Magill
