"The care I received after arriving at emergency"

About: Sydney / Sydney Eye Hospital / Emergency Department Sydney / Sydney Eye Hospital / Outpatient Department (Eyes & General)

(as the patient),

When I first arrived at emergency, I recall they didn’t have any beds so I was left on a chair unsupervised alone. After about 30 minutes I was given a morphine shot directly in my stomach which did not do anything to alleviate the pain.

After I had been at the hospital for around an hour, a wonderful nurse Emily got me a bed, and some much needed pain relief - Emily had just begun her shift so I think it was change over. After I was in a bed I got amazing treatment from the nurses and doctors, received a CT scan and was quickly diagnosed with a kidney stone by Dr Katherine (Katy).

Sobia the nurse also took amazing care of me and everyone ensured that my anti-nausea medication and pain medication was working. I went up to the ward and was with DJ the nurse who was incredible. So professional and attentive and making sure I drank water. Apart from my first hour at Sydney Hospital, the care I got was very high and I felt very cared for.

Dear corridorss87,

Thank you for taking the time to let us know about your experience at Sydney/Sydney Eye Hospital.

I apologise that you did not feel fully attended to during your first hour in the Emergency Department while waiting for a bed to become available.

I am very pleased to hear that the rest of your treatment in Emergency and the ward was of a high quality. I will make sure to pass on your specific compliments to Emily, Dr Katy, Sobia and DJ who will be delighted to hear that they were able to make your overall experience a positive one.

We wish you all the best for your recovery and ongoing health.

Kind Regards,

Jonathan Magill
