"Afternoon tea"

About: Logan Lodge

(as the patient),

I attended the Logan Lodge xmas afternoon tea. I sat near the back and couldn't believe how many tables had been put in to that area. It seemed to me they were nearly on top of one another and I believe the people at the tables were quite a lot, about 7 at some or more.

The afternoon tea had to be put in another room, I recall so many had to get someone to get their food for them. In my opinion, if any problem had arisen, there would be no way of getting all these people out.

Dear sculptorrg74,

Thank you for taking the time to write about your observations of the Logan Lodge Christmas afternoon tea.

You raise a really good point that there were a lot of people at this afternoon tea, and I think you were observing that if an evacuation was required it would have been challenging, but I also wonder about social distancing for covid too, as we had just come out of one community outbreak and on the cusp of going into another.

The nursing, catering and activities staff plan this afternoon tea very carefully and I know they take great pride in having these events. I think for future such events it might be really helpful at the start for a very brief evacuation summary to be outlined for all to know how it would work. Do you think this would have been helpful?

Kind Regards

Chloe

Dear sculptorrg7,

Thank you for your feedback with regard to the recent afternoon tea provided for consumers and families at Logan Lodge.

Your feedback will certainly be forwarded through to the key staff responsible for these such events including our Food Services Manager and our Occupational Health and safety manager for their review.

Feedback is so important so as SHDH can improve on our processes and ensure a safe environment for all, particularly when there is a larger than usual group event.

Kim

Dear sculptorrg74,

Thank you for your feedback outlining your concerns about the morning tea at Logan Lodge, here at Logan Lodge we take your concerns very seriously and will use as a learning opportunity for upcoming events.

Consumers were allocated 1 visitor each in which not every consumer wished to have a visitor.

Staff were present majority of the time unless called away to attend to consumer in rooms, staff stood back as not to interrupt the event.

There are four exit points where consumers are able to be evacuated from in case of emergency.

Sliding doors at the front of the dining room Open area to the left into a hallway Open area to the right into a hallway Open area towards the activity room and able to go left or right

In case of emergency, emergency protocols would be followed and consumers would be evacuated/moved to the nearest fire safety zone or in line with the emergency.

Afternoon tea was held in a separate room to where visitors were seated to ensure infection prevention and control standards were in place and maintained throughout the food service, visitors were asked to use tongs by staff and not fingers to prevent handling of the food.

Kind regards,

Lee Sullivan
