"Visit to emergency"

About: Wonthaggi Hospital / Emergency Department

(as the patient),

I visited my local doctor for a routine appointment. At this appointment it was detected I had a rapid heart rate of 180, two ECG were performed which showed the same. My doctor wanted to call an ambulance but said would be quicker for my spouse to drive, my doctor wrote a letter so I could be seen by a cardiologist and gave me a copy of ECG's.

When I arrived, it seemed to me there were patients parked under trees on trolleys in warm weather. I went inside and eventually was seen after moving through a few rooms. Taking into consideration I believe this could of been a potential heart attack, I am totally in shock of the treatment. I was eventually seen by a doctor who asked me why I came there and not to my doctor’s. After telling them what happened, I recall the doctor said I can go see my doctor in next couple of days.

No tests, no blood tests, no nothing. Even though my heart rate was still fluctuating. I was in disbelief at what this doctor was saying. They asked me what I wanted. I am not a doctor. I asked who would my spouse sue If I died. I walked away in total shock and disbelief that a person with a heart problem would be treated in this way.

I understand that the hospital is short staffed and covid has made things very hard for everyone. If this was a member of your family how would you react. In my opinion, shame on you Wonthaggi hospital.

Dear puppiszc37,

Thankyou for your feedback.

I am so sorry that you had such an awful experience.

So we can fully understand the details of your visit to ED, it would be really helpful if you could call our Operations Director responsible for Emergency Care, Fiona on 0418 495 382. This will help us understand how we can make improvements.

Kind Regards

Lou
