I was admitted into hospital after waters breaking & required an emergency caesarean. The maternity nurses & doctors showed care, empathy & respect for all aspects of my care, including when I was required to stay longer with my newborn awaiting a flight with RFDS. The staff welcomed my family each day and made them feel included and welcomed at all times.
During my stay I was required to move rooms. My room within the maternity ward I felt was immaculate and clean. On moving into a private room, I was disappointed to find it appeared to be unclean. I recall I found the following:
- used cotton tip, open cracker wrapper plus a used infant bottle on the rooms main floor
- hair remained throughout the bathroom on the walls plus a large amount over the floor
- the bed itself did not offer me the level of comfort and support for long periods of stay, when I'd just had a c section.
On raising my level of disgust, to the point to discharge me the following day, the night managers were called and notified who I believe ordered a re-clean of bed linen plus bathroom.
In my opinion, the room should have been thoroughly checked prior to my placement with a newborn, but more importantly in our current health climate, I felt it should have been thoroughly cleaned!
