"TVs in cardiac ward"

About: Royal Perth Hospital / Coronary Care Unit (CCU) Ward 4F

(as a relative),

A family member was admitted to the Cardiology Ward (4F). After changing status to 'private patient', they found that the TV did not work. A wonderful nurse, Kelly, went above & beyond to get it fixed. I recall there were several TVs in the ward that did not work.

This might seem like a trivial matter to some, but I believe many patients on this ward are elderly, may come from a remote location, or have no visitors, so I feel having a TV is a small comfort.

In my opinion, the nursing staff are busy enough without having to do TV fix-it jobs.

Dear indiafn87,

I do appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us.

It is disappointing to hear the television was not initially working when your family member was recently an inpatient on Ward 4F at Royal Perth Hospital.

I too recognise that it can be the little things that matter most during a patient’s hospital stay and by ensuring all amenities are in working order certainly helps in providing a positive patient experience. Please accept my apologies this was not initially the case with your family member.

I can advise that the television facilities utilised within Royal Perth Hospital are contracted to an external independent business. Staff are vigilant in ensuring they rectify any issues with the televisions that occur promptly by contacting the contractor and the matter is addressed accordingly. I was pleased to hear nurse Kelly went above and beyond to assist your family member in such a timely manner. I have passed on your kind words to the Nurse Unit Manager of Ward 4F who will ensure Kelly is made aware of the positive impact she had in this instance.

I sincerely hope your family member is recovering well.

Kind Regards,

Dr Lesley Bennett
