I had a successful intervention free birth for my second child, I felt supported by the midwife team throughout the labour, I also received excellent aftercare.
I felt prepared and calm throughout labour thanks to the positive birth program I accessed online through WA Country Health Services. The positive birth program gave me tools to use to manage pain, knowledge of what to expect, what I could control and what I should be aware of. I knew what questions to ask, had birthing preferences in place and felt confident that I could advocate for myself and my child.
The online classes were really accessible for those living regionally and I found them far more educational than previous face to face classes I had attended during my first pregnancy. The hypnobirthing principles were well explained and the tools provided in the sessions were easy to adopt. Without doing very much preparation beyond the classes, I was able to utilise skills I had learnt online. These included breathing techniques, positioning, trigger point massage and meditation. While I chose to use pain relief (oxygen+gas) I felt calm in my decisions and knowledgeable around what my choices were.
