"My complicated pregnancy and delivery"

About: Bunbury Hospital / Maternity

(as the patient),

I had a rough pregnancy, started having Cholestasis from the first trimester and a bad itch which kept me awake most nights with 2-4 hrs of sleep at max. I was under high-risk obstetric care and follow up at tertiary center who told me from the beginning that it’s gonna be a preterm delivery and my child may require life support in beginning of life. I knew a big trauma was about to come as the pregnancy is gonna advance not only with physical and mental exhaustion but also with the birth of child.

I got very nervous and anxious thinking about the same, however, I had a class with Kasey and Tiffany at BRH where they explained how to bring the positivity around our surrounding even in pain with various techniques to cope and perform while in labour. I took home the message that day that whatever will happen in near future is inevitable, but what matters is my health and I will just focus on positive things there onwards as everything is bringing me one step closer to meet my baby!

I never thought of the itch and preterm delivery, I survived my pregnancy with whatsoever complication came, and followed what my doctor said. I accepted that my pregnancy is hard but if I survived, the reward is my baby whom I am so desperate to meet (Tiff told us in classes to breathe in labour and take it as one step closer to meet baby!).

I guess, yes, the thought of not thinking about what is going to happen and how to deliver survived me through it and, even at time of my C Section, I was not scared, indeed happy as I could stretch my pregnancy beyond the expected weeks and though preterm, but I was going to meet my baby, no negative thoughts prevailed around me.

Baby born with C-section, required special care nursery for a few weeks but made a good recovery and was discharged.

I told my all friends who were pregnant not to think anything, just look after yourself well so that the bub is healthy and recommended them to attend ANC classes. Bring positive feelings for yourself and baby and you will survive the worst as I did.

I would definitely recommend women to have such a positive experience during pregnancy. I believe hypnobirthing does help a lot in conjunction with medical, so do follow your specialist advice as well.

Congratulations airwx37 on the birth of your baby!

Thank you so much for sharing your journey with us. I can see you had lots of unforeseen turns. I am so glad the Positive Birth Program was able to support your journey through pregnancy and birth and into the postnatal period. Your story is music to my ears. The aim of this program is to provide knowledge and tools to women & their partners to support their pregnancy and birth regardless of what turns it may take and I feel like you have embraced this ethos with open arms.

Thank you again for writing this piece - I will be sure to share it with Tiff. I am sure it will inspire mums-to-be!

Warm Regards,

Kasey Biggar
