"Flight information"

About: Patient Assisted Travel Scheme - WACHS Kimberley

(as a service user),

At the time of writing, I was 31 weeks pregnant. Due to developing some complications, I was not able to deliver locally and required to travel for antenatal care at 36/40. My GP obstetrician completed the front of my PATS form, but on taking this to the PATS office, I was told I can't have flights booked as I don't have an appointment at the receiving hospital and that flights are only booked 2 days before. I need to book flights separately for my other children as I cannot leave them at home alone, hence why I would have liked to have had this arranged as soon as possible. I found the staff member at PATS was obstructive and unhelpful at what was already a stressful time.

Hi whisperwe44,

Thank you for taking the time to share your recent experience with PATS, and I am sorry to hear that you encountered problems at a time that was already stressful for you. On most occasions the PATS Officer will need appointment details for those requiring assistance, to be able to book travel, however I acknowledge that your situation was a little different. I would really appreciate you contacting me, so I can follow this up with the relevant office, which will hopefully avoid this happening to someone else. My name is Donna Cox and I can be contacted on 91942334 or 0427 796 388 or email Donna.cox@health.wa.gov.au with your contact details and I will get back to you.

I hope all is going well for you and your family and am hoping to hear from you soon.

Donna Cox

Regional Coordinator, PATS-Kimberley
