"Midwifery Group Practice"

About: King Edward Memorial Hospital / Maternity

(as a service user),

I found out I was pregnant on Mother’s Day 2021, it was a big surprise and it took a while for me to get my head around it. My first GP didn’t seem to be familiar with the WA health system and the care options available to me and I didn’t want to tell friends and family at first. Luckily I had one friend I could confide in who was a midwife so she gave me the great advice to change GPs and to enrol in MGP. My friend explained what they do and the benefits of the program, the main one being that I was able to get to know the midwife that delivered my baby throughout my pregnancy.

I enrolled after the referral from my GP and found the MGP to be great all through pregnancy, I always felt relaxed, there were no judgements and my midwife was always a text or phone call away if I was worried about anything.

My birth didn’t quite go to plan and my midwife was mid-delivery with another baby when I went into labour so I ended up having a different midwife there for most of the labour. However, at the change of shift the following evening my regular midwife arrived which was a sight for my tired eyes! It panned out I needed an emergency c-section after 19 hours of labour and my midwife made me feel really relaxed about this major change of plan. She was great, helping me to have skin to skin as soon as possible and I was able to breastfeed in the recovery room so I could bond with my baby straight away.

I’m really grateful for the care I received. Despite not having the birth I had planned for, I have a very healthy and happy baby and am making a great recovery from the c-section.

Dear HappyHealthy2022,

Congratulations on the birth of your baby and thank you for your recent feedback regarding the high quality of care you received through our Midwifery Group Practice (MGP) service.

It is wonderful to hear our staff were responsive in that they were only ever a telephone call or a text message away if you had concerns when you were pregnant. It is also lovely to hear you received excellent continuity of care throughout your caesarean section and when in the postpartum period.

We are always interested in hearing from our patients about their experience and I am glad to hear you received such high-quality care. Once again, thank you for your feedback. I will be sure to relay your grateful message to all staff involved.

Yours sincerely

Jodi Graham
