"Empathy training would be helpful"

About: Box Hill Hospital / Emergency Department

(as the patient),

A particular nurse whose name I can provide, could certainly do with some empathy training in my opinion, and not tell patients things that were not told to them (and carer separately) when they themselves were not there. All I wanted was some mental help. Maybe use the words such as "that shouldn't have been said" or similarly not "no they didn't."

I feel it is not good to let a mental health client home without telling them the medication they had just taken, unless they wait for a report to be written. I had sat in emergency for 6ish hours in the cold, not going to be admitted and expected to wait longer for when the nurse has time to write the report.

Dear orangepm43,

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience when attending the Emergency Department at Eastern Health's Box Hill Hospital. I'm sorry it wasn't a positive one and you didn't believe your care was provided in an empathetic way.

I will provide your feedback to the leaders of the Emergency Department as well as the mental health team so they can reflect on your experience and use this as a learning opportunity to see what could be different and better.

I hope your health has improved and any ongoing care you need has been arranged or in place.

Warm regards

David
