"Kalgoorlie excellent service"

About: Patient Assisted Travel Scheme - WACHS Goldfields

(as the patient),

I have dealt with the PATS office in Kalgoorlie and found the ladies extremely helpful and very kind and courteous. I have never had any of my claims questioned or refused and find this service and the staff amazing. I believe the fact that you can get assistance for medical treatment simply because you choose to live outside of the Perth metro area is amazing and all the people who complain about the service and the staff should count their blessings that it is even available in my opinion. The amount of people and paperwork that the staff would have to deal with on a daily basis, not to mention the abuse simply because the money is taking a few weeks to be paid, I feel would be awful. I commend the staff on their patience.

Dear sierrape53,

I was really thankful that you took time out of your day to share your PATS (Patient Assisted Travel Scheme) story with us. The scheme provides great support to WA country residents, providing access to the nearest medical specialist where they are not available locally. Being able to share your story with the staff really does make a difference. It reinforces that the service we are providing makes a difference to our patients when this might be a difficult time for them and it makes being sometimes weighed down in the “paperwork” side of the business a little bit easier, it certainly made the day brighter for the staff when reading your lovely compliment.

In the near future with the ongoing improvements and a new PATS online portal becoming available we do hope that it will increase our efficiency and accountability, and it will give patients more autonomy over their PATS applications.

I do hope that you are on the mend and enjoying our cooler weather.

Kind regards

Margaret Smillie
