"Heart attack"

About: Sale Hospital / Emergency Department

(as a relative),

My parent presented via ambulance for a heart attack. It seemed an absolutely textbook heart attack to me, was treated in Emergency with 2 x Panadol and left, all the while deteriorating and in immense pain. Eventually bloods were done, showed heart damage, referral to another hospital was organised and each following blood test showed more damage and patient still deteriorating. Told there was nothing they could do in Sale, yet it seemed they left my parent in Sale for a few days while the other hospital had a bed and my parent's cardiologist waiting.

Terrible communication from the staff in my opinion, one particular day I recall not once did a doctor come and check my parent, not once. When questioned about this, I was told that the team is assessing my parent, can I speak to the team? Who is the team? I was there all day each day in the hospital and it seemed not one person could tell me what was going on and why my parent hadn’t been transferred as they were getting worse and worse and there was nothing Sale could do. Disgusting treatment in my opinion, ignored the heart attack and given Panadol, I felt was an absolute joke. Even the ambulance drivers came back to check on my parent post admission and it seemed were shocked that nothing had been done and they were sitting there hours and hours later with Panadol.

Dear ScreenName123,

Thank you for posting your story about the treatment your parent received in our Emergency Department. At the outset let me offer our apologies for what you and your parent experienced.

We are keen to be able to investigate this matter fully to understand what occurred. To that end, if you were willing to provide me with your name, and/or your parent's name, with necessary contact details we can get in touch and discuss this matter fully.

We are commencing a programme of care improvement across the organisation so being able to understand your story fully would greatly assist with the work that will be commencing shortly in the Emergency Department.

If you would like to contact me directly I can be reached either via email mark.dykgraaf@cghs.com.au or via telephone 03 5143 8319.

Kind Regards,

Mark Dykgraaf

Chief Executive Officer
