"First-time mum"

About: Kalgoorlie Population Health

(as a parent/guardian),

I am a first-time mum of a newborn. Recently, he had been really unsettled and I had noticed changes to some of his poos. As a first-time mum I never know what’s normal, if I’m doing a good job or the right thing for my baby.

I called the Population Health team and spoke to Child Health Nurse Danielle who was amazing! She gave me helpful advice and the reassurance I needed that I was doing a good job because I was doubting myself and my abilities. I believe sometimes all you need is someone to listen and tell you you're doing a good job. Thank you Danielle for your time and reassuring me, it really has made me feel a thousand times better!

Dear Firsttimemum,

Thank you for taking the time to provide this lovely feedback. Danielle is one of our Superstars and I am glad to hear she provided you with the support you needed.

As you identify, being a new parent and particularly a first-time mum, can be a daunting and overwhelming experience at times. This is something all our child health nurses recognise and they ensure that all new parents feel listened to and feel safe to ask any questions they may have. The little people we care for aren’t always able to let their parents know that they are on the right track, so our nurses are there to help make sure parents know when they are doing a great job!

Thank you again for the feedback – Danielle will be very happy to hear it! I wish you and your family all the best.

Many thanks
