"Broken arm"

About: Perth Children's Hospital / Emergency Department

(as a parent/guardian),

We presented to the emergency department with a broken arm after my son lost against the monkey bars. My son has huge anxiety towards medical stuff due to a bad experience when he was younger, and it is a massive fight just to go to the GP. However at PCH emergency we were seen within minutes, all the staff involved were polite and helpful even though my son was screaming in fear.

After the assessment we were transferred to ward 1B and were greeted by a lovely nurse called Jacinta she was caring, kind and made my son feel very safe. That evening we were off to theatre, my son’s anxiety and fear started again however the anaesthetist named Joel was amazing, so patient and willing to spend the extra time to easy my son’s anxiety. Thank you so much for making this experience a good one. And a huge thank you to all the nurses who work day and night to care for the sick and injured.

Dear guideqy84,

Thank you for taking the time to share your positive feedback about your son’s experience in our Emergency Department (ED), Ward 1B and Theatre at Perth Children’s Hospital (PCH). I will pass on your lovely comments to our staff that cared for your son.

Having surgery for a broken arm can be distressing, particularly if you have not had positive experiences previously with healthcare. I am pleased to hear that each team member involved in your son’s care was able to reassure him and decrease his anxiety in what would have been a stressful situation for him.

Our staff are committed to demonstrating our core values of Accountability, Collaboration, Compassion, Equity, Excellence and Respect and your experience reflects these values.

Feedback such as yours is pivotal in encouraging and supporting our staff, so thank you for taking the time to let us know.

I trust your son is healing well and wish you and your family all the best for the future.

Kind regards,

Louise Keyes
