"Uncaring treatment"

About: Box Hill Hospital / Emergency Department

(as the patient),

Prompt and very helpful, until I was taken into what I felt was the dungeon of don't give a rats! Doctors and nurses talking amongst themselves, one nurse in particular couldn't find a vein for a blood test, a doctor came and roughly found a small vein in my hand which I felt they uncaringly attempted once. Then second time found a vein, now my hand is black and blue swollen and just awful patient care. I was, for 3 and a half hrs left alone. No checking, no caring, and this particular day, the service left me no choice but to walk out. Based on my experience I thought, shame on Box Hill Hospital..shame.

Thank you very much for taking the time to share these comments regarding your experience when attending the Emergency Department at Eastern Health's Box Hill Hospital.

I'm sorry it was not a positive experience for you. Our team always do their best to provide the care and service people need and practice with the Eastern Health values of Patients First, Kindness, Respect, Excellence, Agility and Humility. It is clear from your comments that our team were not able to do this for you during this visit.

Your visit may have coincided at a time when we were very short of staff, or had a high number of critically ill patients presenting at the same time. While I am unable to ascertain this specifically, I wanted to reassure you the care you received is not what I, the leaders of the Emergency Department or the team themselves would want you to have. Again, please accept my apologies.

I hope whatever brought you to the Emergency Department has received treatment and things are have improved.
