"No Urologist follow-up after several weeks"

About: Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital / Urology Department

(as a relative),

My spouse has been in C Block for more than three weeks and can't pass their urine which means they have had a catheter from day one. My complaint is that my spouse needs to see a Urologist and also have a sample taken from their bladder as there appears to be something unusual in their bladder. Why after 3 weeks hasn't something been done.

My spouse is just about ready to jump off a cliff with boredom and frustration and I am just about a wreck with their constant phone calls.

Dear warmnt65,

Thank you for taking the time to provide feedback regarding your concerns about the length of time it has taken for your spouse to be referred to a urologist whilst an inpatient in C Block at Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital. Please accept our apologies for what must have been very stressful and frustrating experience. Care Opinion is an anonymous platform which can make it challenging to provide a response that is specific to your spouse’s care, however I did ask the Nurse Co-Director to provide me with commentary on the issues that you have raised. They have indicated that your spouse has an appointment for a procedure on the 7th June 2022, and that they are now at home with community support, so I am hopeful that some of your frustrations have been reduced.

If this is not correct, I would encourage you to contact the Consumer Liaison Service on 64572867 or email CLS@health.wa.gov.au to provide your spouse’s details so that we are able to provide you with an update on the plan of care.

Kind regards,

Theresa Marshall
