My parent has been in hospital and then in rehab for over 3 months now. We tried to visit them at the Peter James Centre in Burwood East. But they have not updated their covid visitor policies to be in line with the current state government restrictions. I feel this is appalling, my parent is having problems with their memories and physical abilities. Doctors have said having regular family visitors would be a benefit to their recovery but it is being hindered by their own policies. I believe it might be time to take them somewhere else.

Dear Chewie,

Thank you for your Care Opinion Post and I apologise that you have experienced difficulty with arranging to visit your parent. Our Eastern Health visitor policy does specifically allow for visitors who are providing support for people with memory problems and physical abilities and I am sorry that this does not seem to have been made possible for you.

If you would be happy to, I would encourage you to speak to the Nurse Manger of the ward that your parent is on and clarify the visitor arrangements. Alternatively you could contact one of the Patient Relations Advisors in the Eastern Health Centre for Patient Experience, either by calling 1800 EASTERN or by emailing feedback@easternhealth.org.au. If you choose to call, please be aware that it is possible that the Patient Relations Advisors may be on another call at the time you ring and if so, you will be invited to leave a message so they can return your call.
