"Covid testing"

About: Geraldton Hospital

(as a service user),

My child and I arrived just after opening and I recall there were already at least 30 people waiting. 

It was warm and there was no shade, there were older people and kids who I believe were uncomfortable. I was able to shade my child by standing the entire time we were there until we got to the official waiting area where it seemed there were 8 or 9 chairs.

When we eventually got to having our tests done, 3 hours later, we found that there was only 1 person administering the tests. 

I think that it was unacceptable for people to wait out in the sun without any shade for 3+ hours.

In my opinion, only having one person able to administer tests meant that the whole process was slow and painful.

Thank you for sharing your story on Care Opinion

I was sorry to hear of the extended wait that you and your child were faced with and would like to apologise for that. There have been occasions when there has been an unforeseen surge in the numbers seeking COVID testing. Where possible we will make attempts to redeploy available staff to the testing clinic to provide additional support and reduce waiting periods for our consumers. I am sorry that on the day you presented we were not able to test yourself and your child in a more prompt and efficient manner.

Please be assured we continue to monitor the community caseloads and presentations at the testing clinic so that we can respond with increased staffing when we are presented with a rise in numbers seeking testing.
