"What a save! Thanks for caring"

About: Wonthaggi Hospital / Emergency Department

(as a relative),

My recent experience at the Bass Coast Health emergency department was truly a matter of life or death. Fortunately, we are so very lucky to have dedicated nurses and doctors who recognised that my grandmother was extremely unwell. Not only were they on to it, with their quick assessment a game changer for my grandmother’s outcome, they treated her with dignity and respect even when things were messy and hard. At the same time, they took the time to ensure that I had the information I needed and understood what was happening. When my grandmother needed care, they were there. I am sure others had to wait when there was a team of 5 or 6 people at one point, and I will always remember what happened for the next time I might need to wait a little while, as these things take some time but truly make such a difference. My family and I will be ever so grateful. Thanks a million.

Dear phoenix65,

Thank you so much for taking the time to provide us with your really lovely feedback. It sounds like it was a pretty worrying time for you and your family and you have described the inside dynamics of a busy ED well - the staff pivot quickly based on the urgency of the situation and a team of ED staff will often get involved with one patient for a period to make sure they are stabilized, which unfortunately means others may have a longer time to treatment. Emergency staff are highly skilled and they come to work with the very best intents always, and yes they often have this awesome impact where they save lives! They are an extraordinary group of people and I know they will be really chuffed to read your lovely post. I hope your grandmother is doing ok, and I sincerely thank you for sharing your experience.

Kindest Regards, Jan
