Was stressful! I started getting contractions around 4:30pm and then got more intense so I got my partner home around 5:30 (as they were going to be working late night) and then I texted my midwife at 5:45pm and said I hope you're on tonight… next minute, my midwife calls saying I hope you're not in labour… and my midwife goes on about, as I understand it, the Narrogin Hospital is on bypass so anyone in labour needs to go elsewhere. I recall they said to go to Armadale cause they don’t have staff and no one in theatre if it went that way … I was trying to hold it together as my midwife kept talking. I knew I was well and truly in labour as it was my second.
I got of the phone and I had the biggest melt down I've ever had- freaking out, my partner comes running cause I’m struggling to breathe they thought something was wrong with our other child …as they've never seen me that upset. I said they're fine, we can’t go to Narrogin we need to travel elsewhere so we chose Bunbury (around a 2 hour drive) and got a family member to pick up our other child, was a very stressful drive for both me and my partner, but we got to the hospital just before 8pm and had our baby at 9:14pm, I was just on the gas the whole time and mostly in the shower but gee no fun being in the car for that long but we made it 😅 I was proud that I had no pain relief while in the car 😅.
I asked the midwife around 8:45ish, or something like that, I wanted her to see how dilated I was cause they were getting more intense- so she did. She thought I could be fully dilated as she was unsure but said there was a lot of fluid and asked if I wanted my water broken so I said what ever she thinks and bam, go time, straight after I was pushing and was pushing for less then 15mins 😅 no tearing down there🙌 -the midwife was lovely and said I did great as I listened to her when she was telling when and when not to push and what not, like it was full on but I would say that overall it was a lot better then then my first labour.
Also had to pee on the side of the road just before Collie in between contractions 😅 the tiniest bit of wee comes out but I felt like it made a difference.
I was disappointed that Narrogin Hospital didn’t let me know they were on bypass beforehand, considering that it seemed to me that they knew for 2 full days before I contacted them. I think it would of been nice for everyone that was within two weeks of their due date or over, as I feel I know I wasn’t the only one that got sent away. If I knew earlier, I could of been prepared to travel elsewhere and left as soon as I got signs of labour or could of had the option to travel elsewhere and wait for labour or until the Narrogin Hospital was ready to go, the stress of finding that I couldn’t birth there when I was in labour was not nice. Luckily it all turn out ok and Bunbury Hospital was amazing.
