"Presence for critical patient"

About: King Edward Memorial Hospital / Maternity

(as a parent/guardian),

My wife was 22 weeks pregnant and was in critical condition in King Edward Memorial Hospital and she asked me to call a nurse. So I pressed the emergency bell but no one came and my wife was really in pain at that time and she asked if my baby is coming now.

Then I went out to ask nurses and that my wife is delivering the baby, please come, but I recall they said I do not need to worry about that. It seemed there were two nurses free in the nurse room. Then I went to tell reception that I need help for my wife. The reception staff also went there to ask the nurses but I believe they did not listen, I asked them again but I recall they said do not come again and again. I think in my mind that maybe we are in a wrong place, where nurses do not seem to look after patients. My wife gave birth to a stillborn baby.

We have had a bad experience, you can not give a life or stop death, but I feel you are supposed to care for the patient in a critical time and also show your presence when a patient is in critical condition.

We did complain in King Edward Memorial Hospital but we are still waiting for their response,

Thank you.

Dear jazzhp83

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience with the Women and Newborn Health Service during what I am sure is a very difficult time for you and your wife. I would like to take this opportunity to express my deepest sympathy for your loss to you and your family and I apologise for the considerable distress you underwent during a very traumatic time.

I am disappointed to read that you felt that you and your wife were not in the right place to receive the care she and your unborn baby needed. WNHS strives to provide a safe environment where patients and their families are encouraged and feel comfortable to advocate for their health and I am disappointed to read that this was not your experience with our service.

The events you have described in your feedback has been taken very seriously and our service is keen to rectify this situation. I would like to encourage you once again to contact out Consumer Liaison service on (08) 6458 1444 or via email WNHSCLS@health.wa.gov.au if you have not yet received a response to your complaint, so that we can discuss your experience with our service further.

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience with me. I understand that this would not have been an easy task for you. I wish you and your family all the best for the future and I do hope that we hear from you soon.

Regards,

Matt Skinner

Thank you sir, We appreciate your response,

But still we are waiting for any response from King Edward Memorial Hospital.

They have not taken any action on our complaint, which is disappointing,
