"Emergency department"

About: Karratha Health Campus / Emergency Department

(as a service user),

I was unwell recently and went to the ED. The department was very busy that day, causing long wait times. When I was in the acute bay I received compassionate care from the nursing and medical staff I dealt with.

However with the set up of the department, it seemed I could hear every conversation the doctors and nurses had regarding the other patients tests, diagnosis and treatment plans. The staff all spoke in a professional manner and in low voices, but there was no where I could see for them to discuss things in a more confidential way.

Dear earmarkkh79,

Thank you for taking the time to provide me with your patient journey for the emergency department of the Karratha Health Campus. I am happy to hear of the compassionate care you received from the team.

The design of the department is to provide increased visibility and communication for clinically acute patient bays, I do note your concerns for confidentiality as a result and that our staff spoke in a professional manner.

I acknowledge the difficulties of such a design to ensure clinical safety also has issues for patients to overhear staff. We hope that you are feeling better since your care at Karratha Health Campus.

Warm regards,

Liam Avery, Operations Manager West Pilbara
