About: Child Health Services - WACHS South West

(as a parent/guardian),

I have received a referral for a speech assessment to the Child development team.

I strongly think that these services should now be done face to face especially for children that have more severe issues than my child. Telehealth services can be difficult to access for some families and being in front of a computer may be difficult for a young child and the assessment may be very difficult to undertake.

I would appreciate if these services can return to face to face contacts, instead of telehealth services.

However, thank you to the speech pathologist Rose who made my child very comfortable very quickly and provided us with a great service within the circumstances of Telehealth.

Dear circinuscn48,

Thank you for letting us know about your experience on Care Opinion.

In February this year, to manage COVID in the Health Care environment, WA Country Health Services commenced telehealth services for a majority of outpatient appointments.

We do appreciate the challenges this has had for the delivery of some of our services and programmes delivered by Child Development Services. We have introduced strategies to support services provided through telehealth. Telehealth for our Child Development Services has worked well for some areas however challenging for others.

WACHS as a whole are currently looking at safe processes we can put in place to allow a transition to be able to offer face to face services for some of the services that have been impacted by the telehealth service model. It is hoped that this transition will begin soon.
