"PCR test"

About: Meekatharra Hospital / Emergency Department

(as a service user),

I went to the Meekatharra hospital to get a PCR test. I called the number to be seen once I was in the outside waiting room. I explained my symptoms and that I am a close contact. I was told I have COVID and go home to take a rat. I explained that they came back negative but had symptoms, people in my household are positive for COVID. The nurse said they would not do a test and I had to complete a rat at home and that the rat will be positive in a few days.

I feel that this is neglectful care.

I called the COVID hotline who said I needed a PCR test and that they cannot deny me care. 

In my opinion, the actions of the Meekatharra Hospital staff are not ok, I needed to know if I have it or not so I can go back to work.

There is no where else within a few hundred kilometres that it seems I am able to receive any care.

I wish to apologise for you receiving the incorrect information and being refused a PCR test. You and the community rightly expect accurate information from us and on this occasion, we have not met that standard.

The Clinical Nurse Manager Meekatharra Hospital has clarified with their team the current COVID testing protocols and will keep them updated of any changes that occur in the future.

I would encourage you, and anyone in your household, who requires a test to please present to the Meekatharra Hospital.
