(as the patient),

I found my recent anaesthetist today was condescending, unfriendly and made me and I believe 2 other patients cry who were on the list I was on for egg collection at the RHW. This is the third time I have had an anaesthetic here in the around 3 months. This time was the only time I felt like this. I felt intimidated, and unsafe to say anything at the time as I felt my life was in their hands. In my opinion, they were extremely unpersonable, their bedside manner needs a lot of work. I believe they need training in empathy and compassion.

thankyou for your care opinion story concerning your recent experience at the Royal Hospital for Women. The Royal Hospital for Women strives to provide a high level of service and patient care and I am sorry our care and communication did not meet your expectations.

I have escalated your complaint to the Director of Anaesthetics for consideration and review of your concerns around the behaviour of the anaethetist involved. The anaethetist has been reminded of the need to communicate in a sensitive and professional manner at all times and we are sorry that you did not receive this expected level of care.

Thank you again for sharing your experience with me. It is through direct feedback from patients and their loved ones that we can get the best insights into the performance of our health services and the areas that need improvement.
