I had surgery on my hand at the Sydney Eye/Hand Hospital with Dr Damien. I had been on a waiting list elsewhere for 10 months and when I got a phone call from this hospital, I saw the anaesthetist on the Friday and my operation was on the Wednesday.
I was more than happy and I could not believe how lovely everyone was when I was in the waiting room, getting seen to, seeing the anaesthetist and then going to theatre and looking after me when I came out. I wouldn’t be where I am now if it wasn’t for them. I move my hand a lot and now I’m just looking forward to getting back to my sewing
And to go see the anaesthetist before my surgery made me feel a lot better and it just helped that I got someone who spoke to me properly and didn’t just say ‘you’ll be right’. But when they talk and ask how are you going, I’m just going to put this needle in. This calmed me down, I can’t speak more highly of them.
When I went to my GP at Lake Haven, she took the dressing off and said that he (Dr Damien) must have practiced needle work at school it was that perfect and there were so many stitches, my GP gave up trying to count them.
Just everybody I met that day at Sydney Eye Hospital, I couldn’t speak more highly of them.
